Sacramento
is the capital city of California. When I heard this fact for the first time - before we moved
to California - I was really surprised. Why isn't it San Francisco? Sacramento is just the sixth-largest city in California.
We've visited this city twice so far. I definitely recommend going to The California State Railroad Museum.
In this museum you can find 21 locomotives and cars including a Pullman-style
sleeping car, a dining car filled with railroad china, and a Railway
Post Office. It is fun to step into the sleeping car which imitates the movement of the real train.

At the end of our visit we went to the 2nd floor where the kids can play with toy trains. I think this is the most fun part of them, but don't mess up the order because if you go upstairs first, you won't be able to bring your children to see the exhibition. :)

In the afternoon we went to the Sutter's Fort State Historical Park. This park shows us how the emigrants lived before the Gold Rush. John Sutter built the Fort and his agricultural empire. You can see how they lived in the Fort, how for example the doctor's room looked like, how they cooked, what did they ate.
The Gold Rush of 1849 brought tens of thousands of people to California from all over the world. But even before the first gold seekers arrived, Sutter’s Fort was already a melting pot of ethnic, social and cultural diversity.
At the end of the day we had a nice dinner in a restaurant.

We had a really nice day in Sacramento and because this is about half way on the way to South Lake Tahoe- where we wanted to go for vacation- we spent a night there. The next morning we were ready to go to Tahoe for skiing.
