One of my dreams will come true. BALI is such an exotic place. To go there seemed to be an impossible dream. Why? Because it was always too far away from me. It is far from Europe, where I lived before and it is very far from the US, where I am living right now with my family. And also the airplane tickets are very expensive. BUT... we are going there and we didn't even spent too much for the plane tickets, even though we are traveling business class. Which is unbelievable! A ticket for business class costs now more than 6000 USD which is pretty expensive. Are you curious how much we paid for three tickets to travel from San Francisco to Bali and back? (Our second daughter is under 2 years old, so she is traveling for free.) We paid just 1500 USD!!! How did we do this? It is not a secret. We applied for plenty of credit cards. Everybody can apply for credit cards, you just need to have a good credit history.
Our plan
At first we will spend a week on the beautiful Indonesian Island of Bali. After that we will stay for 5 nights in Hong Kong. The travel from San Francisco to Bali you have to change flights in Hong Kong. We thought, why not spend some days in this busy, huge city before we return to America? |

Where to stay in Bali? Where to stay in Hong Kong?
When we travel we really like to stay in an apartment or a house. It is better to sleep separately from the kids and having your own kitchen is always good. It is not possible in Hong Kong, that's why we will stay in a hotel. On the other hands in Bali there are a lot of houses which you can rent for a week. We found a beautiful place in Sanur which is in southern Bali. The greatest benefit on this vacation for me is that we will have a lady who will cook dinners for us for 5 USD each. To taste Balinese food at our "home" every evening will be an unbelievably good thing. To eat at home is much easier with two small kids than in a restaurant. And I don't have to cook at all which will be also very memorable for me.
In Hong Kong we will stay in the middle of downtown in a huge hotel, called the Conrad Hotel. We have use our Hilton points to stay in this hotel.
Transportation in Bali and in Hong Kong
Usually we rent a car during our vacation, but we won't in Bali. The taxi cabs are very cheap, so we are planning to go from the airport to our accommodation with a cab (for 10 USD). But if you would like to visit some very exotic, tourist places, you can rent a car with a driver. Anyone who has been to Bali recommends this because the drivers know the island very well and they are also not expensive.
In Hong Kong we will use the public transportation as we did in the other megapolis in New York, too.
I am very excited about the whole trip. The time difference will be a challenge (+16 hours) and the flights are also very long. At first we fly 15 hours to Hong Kong. Than will wait 4 hours for the flight to Bali. That flight is 4 and 1/2 hours long. When we come back from Bali, we will stop in Hong Kong for 5 days so the flight home will be easier.
I hope we will enjoy everything and this time nobody will get sick during this trip! :)
